I finished my Harlot poncho on Sunday. I just need to do a little bit of blocking/pressing the fringe before I take some pictures of it. I said in an earlier post that it was running a bit small. Well it ended a bit small. There is no way I would be able to comfortably wear the poncho. The length ended up fine once the fringe was added, but it was much too narrow around the chest. I would never be able to move my arms once I had it on. I was a bit disappointed I'm not going to be able to wear my creation, but my mother practically snatched the poncho out of my hands once she realized that it was now free game. It fits her perfectly, so at least it will be going to a good home. She loves it, and after trying it on began giving me instructions on how she would like the fringe finished off.
I'm a bit nervous about the Art Nouveau poncho now. I'd like to end up with at least one poncho for myself. It seems as if it is going to be looser, but as it's worked from the bottom up, it's hard to really tell. My mom might end up with a 2nd poncho. I was so annoyed after realizing the poncho wasn't going to fit, that I went out shopping and came home with a poncho. I feel a bit guilty about buying a poncho. It kind of feels like getting your hair done at a place other than your normal hairdresser. I feel as if I was caught cheating. I just really wanted a poncho for the fall, and with the different projects I need to get done for birthdays and Christmas I don't know if I'll have enough time to start and finish another one. If I do find the time to make another one I will probably go with one of the ones with the two rectangles. Even though I prefer the round ones, I think I'd get a better fit with the rectangle shape.
I picked up the bought poncho at Lane Bryant. It's a green/teal variated acrylic/polyester blend (not really fond of the yarn) that is made of 2 rectangle pieces that have shaping (similar to armhole shaping) at the neck. The shaping curves the rectangle and gives it a nice line. The neck is wide, so it kind of drapes slightly off of one shoulder (I like that). It might be a good shape to try to imitate if I get the time to make another poncho.
I'm sorry your poncho didn't fit :( I know I would have been heartbroken if mine came out the wrong width or length or anything. I was soo excited to make it, it would have been sad :(
I know what you mean about buying a poncho. When I was in LA in July, I saw ponchos EVERYWHERE in the stores and I was starting tocatch the poncho bug, but I *could not* bring myself to buy one. It felt like cheating on my boyfriend or something! heh. But if I'd been you, I would have TOTALLY bought it...
anyway, you should post pics of your mom's new poncho and yours too!!

Oh, what a shame! but you shouldn't feel guilty about buying one- you needed the poncho! :)
I am sure your mom will love it always...

UGH - That stinks! I get so frustrated when something I make doesn't fit! I'm sure the Harlot is beautiful (everything you make is) and your mom is lucky. Better luck with the next one! :)

Congratulations on finishing the poncho. I'm looking forward to seeing it (as I'm knitting the harlot also). Sorry that it didn't fit, but it sounds like you mom is pretty happy about that. There's plenty of time to knit another (in the future) and at least you have one for now. -Suzanne

Hey there,
I too tried to make the Harlot poncho, but fortunately I took it off the needles to try it on when I was about 1/4 done. It still was discouraging and frustrating though, so I feel for you.
As for buying a poncho, well sometimes a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do. I too feel guilty when I buy a sweater, but if I only wore what I finished knitting, I would wear the same things all the time. So enjoy your poncho, maybe you could figure out pattern from it and make yourself another. And then share it with me ;) (just joking....sorta)
Best regards, Viv
